Traditional “Thai Wedding Ceremony” Very Unique in Phuket

09.00 am The bride and the bridegroom arrive at Phuket Orchid Garden and Thai village(POG) all participants shall be briefed prior to the commencement of the ceremony. The bride will be accompanied to the dressing room and dressed up prepared for the ceremony.

The bride’s parents and relatives(can be provided by POG)will be led to the house in the auditorium waiting for the bridegroom’s procession to arrive. The bridegroom’s procession will start from the lakeside restaurant and will walk around the lawn to the auditorium.

The bridegroom will be riding on an elephant specially. Prepared for this occasion. He will carry the gifts to be presented to the brides’ parent. Friend and the relatives will carry sugar canes, fruits, whisky etc. As gifts for the bride ‘s family and the spirits.

The long drum dance will be part of the procession, which upon arrival at the bride’s house, will find the gate blocked by relatives of the bride, asking for a gate fee. All together there will be 3 gates: wood , silver , gold.

The bridegroom’s parents should prepare some money wrapped into paper(to be provided by POG)for them. At each gate there are 3-4 persons. Passing all the gates, the bridegroom and his parents will be permitted to enter the house in which the parents of the bride are waiting . They will ask the bridegroom some question, such as “Why are you coming here?” “What are you bringing for our daughter?” etc. Then the bridegroom will open the gifts he carries(gold, money, accessories; engagement ring etc.) If the parents are satisfied whit the gifts, they will ask their daughter to come out and she receives permission to get married. Then the couple go to pay respect to the Buddha image and they will proceed.

If official registration is require. An authorized government officer will legally record the marriage.

Thereafter to the center table. Older people or their parents will present fresh flowers garlands and put the sacred white string around their heads as sign of being united. Also 3 spots sacred white powder is put on their foreheads as a blessing parents and all relatives start pouring water over the couple hands presenting good wishes. The Thai music group will play during this proceeding.

10.00 am The ceremony is going to finish, when the festival and colorfully dressed dancers come out and wish the couple good luck, long lift and happiness by throwing around fragment flowers.

If a religious ceremony is require. The party proceeds to a specialty prepared area in the restaurant where five monks bless the wedding couple with prayers and sacred water. Afterwards the couple and their parent will offer the monks food and drinks and make some donation for the temple. After the monks have consumed their food. The ceremony shall draw to a conclusion by re-newed chanting of prayers and blessings.

The bride and the bridegroom will after the monk ceremony plant a “TON RAK”(Love tree) at the lakeside as a gesture of long & growing life of love.

Thereafter the management of Phuket Thai Village will invite the bride and the bridegroom to enjoy lunch or dinner at our lakeside restaurant . If the couple wishes to host lunch or dinner wedding to their and relatives, this can be arranged as an option.
